A One-of-One Hespera Creation
Some jewelry begins with a sketch.
This one began with a rescue.
At the heart of this necklace is an authentic 1950s Navajo naja, carefully reclaimed from a broken squash blossom necklace that had reached the end of its original life. Rather than letting that history disappear, we gave it a second sunrise—building an entirely new story around the soul of the original piece.
The naja is paired with a hand-selected ombré of natural Kingman turquoise, graduating through rich desert blues and soft robin’s-egg tones. Between the stones, vintage heishi and sterling accents create rhythm without distracting from the turquoise, allowing the necklace to feel organic, collected, and effortlessly wearable. Every element was chosen to honor the craftsmanship of the original while creating something unmistakably new.
At 190 grams, it has the presence of a collector’s piece while remaining surprisingly comfortable to wear. It’s a bridge between mid-century Navajo artistry and modern Hespera design philosophy—a necklace that respects its past without being trapped by it.

Eric’s Note
I love making these because they remind me that beautiful things don’t have expiration dates. That old squash blossom had lived its life, but the naja still had decades of stories left to tell. Instead of melting it down or sticking it in a drawer, we built an entirely new adventure around it. I like to think the original silversmith would smile knowing their work is still out there getting admired instead of forgotten.
